The success of Westminster’s lacrosse program is founded on a culture of excellence both on and off the field. Westminster School’s core values (community, character, balance, involvement) along with our motto Grit and Grace helps to foster a comprehensive approach to prepare all aspects of our student-athletes lives through development of mind, body and character. Westminster lacrosse players demonstrate a relentless pursuit to compete and win in highly competitive settings while maintaining a professional attitude.
Westminster School competes in one of the top high school lacrosse leagues in the country, known as the Founder’s League and New England West Division 1. Westminster Lacrosse has a tradition of excellence and development of outstanding lacrosse players. This tradition dates back to 1968 when then Head Coach David Hovey introduced the sport of lacrosse to Westminster students. Since that time, Westminster lacrosse and its student athletes have distinguished themselves at the Division 1, Division 3 and professional levels. First Team All-American Players include: Doug Knight (Virginia ’96, Player of the Year ’97), David Earl (Notre Dame ‘11), Bryan Martin (Yale ‘90), Peter Royer (Goalie of the Year Denison ’01) and Charles Santry (St. Lawrence ’83, ‘84). Additionally, since 1980, 38 Westminster lacrosse alumni have captained their college lacrosse teams.
